Participants will gain concrete tips on how to present themselves effectively, highlight strengths, and tackle challenging questions with ease.

The workshop will also feature an engaging case study on the transition to becoming a research group leader, offering insights into the responsibilities, challenges, and opportunities that come with leading a scientific team. This real-world perspective will help participants envision potential career trajectories and prepare for future leadership roles.

Whether you are just beginning to navigate your career options or are considering the next big step, Career Kickstart Hours will provide clarity, direction, and inspiration to help you move forward with confidence.

2. Exploring OmicSoft Suite: Accessing and Analyzing Curated Omics Data through OPI

  • When: 6th of November, 10:00-12:00
  • Where: Emmanuel de Martonne Street, no. 1, CLUB Hall (same building as AUDITORIUM MAXIMUM)
  • Trainer:
    • Senior Bioinformatician Andrei Alexsson, Qiagen Romania

Description

Dive into the world of large-scale omics data with this hands-on workshop designed to introduce the capabilities of the OmicSoft Suite. Participants will explore how to access and navigate deeply curated disease and oncology datasets, and learn how to integrate these resources into their own research workflows.

The session will highlight the use of the OmicSoft Programmatic Interface (OPI), demonstrating practical strategies for data exploration, visualization, and analysis. Emphasis will be placed on how these tools can accelerate discovery, support hypothesis generation, and drive translational insights from complex datasets.

Whether you are new to OmicSoft or seeking to expand your bioinformatics toolkit, this workshop will provide both the knowledge and confidence to harness curated omics data effectively for your research.

Requirements

Python + Jupyter. Some knowledge in SQL queries is preferable.

It is mandatory to bring your own computer (Windows or Linux).

More information will be provided. after registration.

3. A Practical Introduction to 3DP-Jmol and 3D Printing

  • When: 7th of November, 11:30-12:30
  • Where: Emmanuel de Martonne Street, no. 1, CLUB Hall (same building as AUDITORIUM MAXIMUM)
  • Trainer:
    • Prof. Dr. Marius Mihășan from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC)

Description

Discover how digital molecular structures can be transformed into tangible teaching tools in this engaging hands-on workshop. Using 3DP-Jmol and on-site 3D printers, participants will be guided through the process of turning structural coordinates into physical models that enhance learning and communication.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to (i) select appropriate representations (cartoon, stick, surface) aligned with instructional objectives, (ii) apply print-aware constraints in 3DP-Jmol (scaling, minimum feature thickness, optional struts/segmentation), (iii) export STL/OBJ, and (iv) prepare and launch prints on the available printer. The practical part will be followed by an in-depth discussion of slicer settings for FDM workflows, common causes of print failures, and strategies to achieve reproducible, printer-agnostic results.

Prior experience with molecular visualization is helpful but not required, so whether you are new to molecular visualization or looking for innovative ways to enrich your teaching, this workshop offers both inspiration and practical know-how to bring molecular science to life.

3DP-Jmol development was supported by EDUMOL3D, Project PN-IV-P7-7.1-PED-2024-0343 financed by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization, UEFISCDI, Romania.

Requirements

It is mandatory to bring your own computer (Windows, Linux, or Mac) with a mouse.
